Many times on a property a tree will need to be pruned almost as if it were a great piece of art. You wouldn't let just anyone prune a work of art, but you can be assured that when one of our professionals prune your works of art, they will be treated like a masterpiece.
The successful removal of a tree can be a delicate task and requires highly trained technicians. We recommend that dead or dying trees be removed for safety reasons. In certain instances, live trees should be removed when they interfere with other trees, buildings, driveways and utility wires.
Trees are either dropped after securing a pull line and clearing the area where the tree will land, or alternatively, highly trained technicians rig trees down. A standard removal includes bringing the tree down, chipping all brush, cutting wood in 24” logs and cutting the stumps as flush as possible to the ground.
Pruning Benefits
Pruning is one of the most important cultural and management practices on any landscape. We recommend the pruning of trees and shrubs to preserve health, promote growth, and enhance appearance. Further, pruning is essential to prevent damage to people and your property.
Pruning for Health
Under this classification, broken, diseased, or dead branches are pruned in order to prevent decay-producing fungi from penetrating and infecting other areas of the tree. The removal of live branches is occasionally necessary to allow increased exposure to sunlight and air circulation within the canopy. We also recommend that live branches be pruned in order to restore the important balance or ratio of root to shoot volume, ultimately allowing the revitalization of the lower portion of the tree. In addition, it is essential to prune rubbing, interfering branches with utility wires and branch stubs. Properly pruning these branches and stubs will increase proper healing.
Pruning for Development
Is key to the health and longevity of your trees, as well as ensuring a high level of safety to people and your property. This type of pruning is used mainly in younger trees and shrubs.
Pruning forAppearance
Formal plants or landscapes receive this type of pruning. Your landscape may need to be pruned twice a year.
Pruning to Reduce Size of a Plant
Better know as Crown Reduction pruning. Our highly trained specialists will reduce the limbs on your tree. The tree will look smaller but with not lose its gracefulness.
Pruning for Safety
This type of pruning is critical in eliminating hazardous limbs or branches from falling on pedestrians. It becomes a concern for trees along driveways, pedestrian walkways, older trees, and surrounding buildings. We also recommend pruning branches that interfere with passerby or traffic signs.
Pruning for Views
Landscape beauty is greatly enhanced by allowing visual access to lakes, rivers, sculptures, and other fine areas of your properties. Pruning for views makes the most of surrounding vistas, while maintaining privacy where desired.
Living Assets offers many comprehensive pruning programs that are tailored to the specific needs of your landscape. In our pruning, we follow the guidelines and standards outlined by the American ANSI, which are endorsed by several professional organizations. The high level of expertise of our field specialists enables us to consistently meet these and others standards.
Cabling and bracing create artificial support to structurally weak or weakened trees. We advocate that these types of mechanical support be utilized on specimens with V-shaped crotches, co-dominate leaders, cavities, and horizontal branch formations. These supports prevent injuries, such as crotch and branch breakages, which lead to wood decay. As some structurally weak trees do not benefit from cabling or bracing, we will use our expertise in determining the needs of your trees as part of our regular maintenance program. Naturally, this practice will extend the life and enjoyment of your favorite trees. Living Assets recommends standard galvanized steel cable with quick ties and a choice of either eyebolt for larger wood or lag hooks for smaller diameter wood. For ornamentals, especially Birch and certain evergreens we use smaller lag hooks and soft cable. We have found over the years that hose cable will jeopardize the health of the ornamentals within two to three years. Many companies will even top the trees to minimize the problem when in reality they should reduce the canopy.
